Methodist Vice-President of the Ecumenical Church Council in Czech Republic

Over the course of many decades, United Methodists have served as bridge-builders between Churches of different traditions. It is therefore no surprise that they also assumed leadership positions in ecumenical organizations quite often. The latest example is the Ecumenical Church Council in the Czech Republic, where Petr Procházka, Superintendent of The United Methodist Church in the Czech Republic, was elected as first vice-president.

On November 21, 2017, the 14th general assembly of the Ecumenical Church Council in Czech Republic took place in the premises of The United Methodist Church in Prague. Besides other matters, the assembly elected a new bureau for the next two years. Daniel Ženatý from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren was elected as new president, Petr Procházka, Superintendent of The United Methodist Church in the Czech Republic, was elected as first vice-president. The second vice-president is Marián Čop from the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession and Petr Raus from the Brethren Church was elected as substitute.

The members of the Ecumenical Church Council are the Apostolic Church, the Unity of the Brethren Baptists, the Brethren Church, the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession, The United Methodist Church, the Moravian Church, the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands, the Silesian Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession, and the Old Catholic Church.
