Identification Number 86356

At the end of December 2017, Jadwiga Bogucka-Regulska was carried to her grave on the Brodnowski Cemetery in Warsaw. She was not only a very committed member of Good Shepherd UMC in Warsaw – she was also one of the last surviving inmates of the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Jadwiga Bogucka-Regulska was born on November 20, 1925 in Warsaw. On August 12, 1944, only a few days after the beginning of the Warsaw Uprising (an operation by the Polish underground resistance led by the Home Army to liberate Warsaw from German occupation) she was arrested. Together with her mother, the 18 years old woman was first deported to the transit camp of Pruszków. From there, she was transported to the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, together with about 4000 other women and children, among them her mother. In the concentration camp, she was given the identification number 86356.
Jadwiga Bogucka-Regulska survived the hell of Auschwitz-Birkenau – and she always praised God for having protected and saved her. What she often expressed was underlined by the inclusion of a verse from Psalm 62 in her obituary: «Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.» Her witness touched and encouraged many people from different generations – far beyond her familiar and congregational surroundings.
Jadwiga Bogucka-Regulska was not only a faithful and committed member of Good Shepherd UMC in Warsaw for many decades, she also served as secretary in the headquarters of the UMC in Poland from 1959 to 1983. She actively participated in the life of the church to the last, and she even attended the «Days of Renewal» of the UMC in Poland in summer 2017.
On December 19, 2017, she passed away at an advanced age of 92 years. In the memorial service, which was led Superintendent Andrzej Malicki and Rev.Zbigniew Kaminski, many people took farewell from a woman who even in inconceivable times held fast onto God and put her trust in him.
